Walk On!

July 13, 2013 Garreg Goch

Walk On’ is a celebrity sponsored walk from Swansea to Caernarfon to support the Wales Air Ambulance. If you see any of the walkers whilst on holiday, plase show your support and give generously. They will arrive at Porthmadog on Day 7 - the 19th July.

Following the hugely successful celebration of the Wales Air Ambulance tenth anniversary at Gŵyl Gobaith Music Festival in 2011, Rhys Meirion, the international Opera star and member of iconic welsh trio, The Three Welsh Tenors, is the Ambassador for the Wales Air Ambulance.

As part of his support for the Air Ambulance during the year, Rhys is determined to bring his friends together to raise significant money and awareness and to see if this year’s walk can improve on the £90,000 raised last year.

“It has been an honour and a privilege for me to accept the invitation to become an ambassador for the Wales Air Ambulance. From the moment I accepted I have been considering ways in which I would be able to contribute to their huge effort in raising the money needed to ensure that this invaluable service is available to the people of Wales. And with this year’s ending with the massive concert at Caernarfon Castle, I couldn’t be more excited.”

The plan this year is a two hundred mile walk to link Swansea to Caernarfon, travelling via the fantastic west Wales coast."

- Rhys Meirion, 2013

The Walk

The 200 mile walk will be completed over eight days. The project will be launched with a gala dinner at the Dragon Hotel in Swansea on Friday, July 12th, and the walk will commence at Swansea Town centre at 9.30am on Saturday July the 13th.

The route will take us along the coast to Mumbles, across the Gower to Llanelli, Carmarthen, Lampeter, Aberaeron, Aberystwyth, Machynlleth, Dinas Mawddwy, Dolgellau, Porthmadog, Criccieth and finishing in Caernarfon.
The walk will have eight overnight stops at some of Wales’ most iconic hotels and there will be entertainment and fundraising activities at each evening stop. We will be joined by some of Wales’s top musical acts and some international stars too. Also, at every overnight stop on the eight day trek there will be a small concert to try and raise more money for the charity with local artists performing, finishing with the biggest concert at Carnaerfon Castle.

Tickets for the concert at Caernarfon Castle on July 20 are £10 and available from Palas Print or by calling 01286 674631

The Walkers

Rhys will be joined by a number of family, friends and colleagues who will walk the whole 200 miles. Some celebrities and guest walkers will be with us for sections of the walk, and members of the public are welcome to join us for a number of designated off-road sections. All the details are to be found in The Walk section of this website.
