The Delights of Autumn

Autumn is here and there are lots to see and do!!

At this time of year one way of spending a nice relaxing afternoon is to go picking Brambles! What better way to while away an afternoon than wandering down a lane that is laden with ripe brambles to pick at your leisure.

The amount of recipes you can add brambles too is extensive! From Apple and Bramble pie or crumble to Bramble and Coconut flapjack squares and everything in between!!

Another great thing about Autumn are all the beautifully coloured leaves that are produced by the trees!! These make perfect points of interest if you're a keen photographer and like to capture the essence of Autumn! We have a lovely local place to visit especially in Autumn, called Mulgrave Woods. These woods are perfect for walking with all the family, as there are conker trees so the kids can go and collect all the conkers ready to take home and either varnish them or paint them with vinegar and get them ready for a game of conkers!! Also in Mulgrave Woods there is the ruins of Mulgrave Castle. You do get some beautiful views from the ruins which again you will get to capture some love photos and some lovely family photos for the family album!

Another way to relax in the Autumn sunshine is a trip on the North Yorkshire Moors Railway meandering along from Whitby to Pickering. With stops off in Goathland and Grosmont you can take in all the lovely scenery we have to offer in the Whitby area. Pickering is alovely market town so you could spend a couple of hours having a wander around and grab some lunch in the town centre!

If you are looking for some arts and craft ideas to keep the children entertained then why not collect some natural materials on your walk out! You could collect leaves and acorns to make pictures or patterns! Or if you are staying with us in October you could always do some supervised pumpkin carving and use the insides to make a delicious pumpkin soup or spiced pumpkin cake!

As you can see you can still accomplish a lot even if the weather isn't that great! Nothing nicer than wrapping up warm and digging the wellies out to go out exploring!

If you would like to come and stay with us then call our office on 01947 602664 and we can check on availability for you! We are also very close to the sea and beach, so there is something else for you to do and explore in the rockpools for crabs and other sealife!!

See you all soon
