Her Majesty The Queen's visit to Cornwall

Her Majesty The Queen accompanied by His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh will be visiting St Ives and St Michael's Mount on Friday 17 May. The Royal visit will include a walk along St Ives seafront and tour of the RNLI lifeboat station and the Tate St Ives gallery.

The Queen and Prince Philip were last in West Cornwall two years ago when they visited Penzance and the Isles of Scilly in glorious sunshine. However, this will be the Royal couple's first visit to St Ives and large crowds are expected in St Ives and at Marazion to welcome the royal visitors.

Buckingham Palace has advised that the Royal visitors will arrive by train at St Erth station where they will transfer to a scheduled train along the scenic branch line to St Ives. They will be met at St Ives station by RNLI lifeboat crews and will unveil a plaque to mark their visit. They will then proceed to Tate St Ives, overlooking Porthmeor beach, where they will tour the building, meeting architects, staff and artists.

The party will then travel by car to Marazion, near Penzance,  where they will take the amphibious craft to the iconic island of St Michael's Mount. The Queen and Prince Philip will make shoe prints in soft casts on arrival and then walk to the castle to take lunch as guests of the St Aubyn family. After lunch, they will tour the castle and chapel and meet families that live on the Mount before leaving the island and departing from Cornwall.

Visitors should be aware of some traffic disruption in West Cornwall during the day.
