Summer in February

Metrodome Distribution is delighted to announce the forthcoming release of Summer in February on 14 June 2013 in the UK and Ireland. This deeply moving true story is played out against the timeless beauty of the Cornish coast, in the far West of England, beyond the reach of London and its stifling conventions.
Based on a true story following the complex love triangle at the centre of the bohemian Lamorna Group of artists and set against the background of the Cornish coast, Summer in February will be released in cinemas this Friday (14th June).
Delve behind the scenes by hot footing it to west Cornwall and tracing the footsteps of the real life characters as well as the cast and crew of this much anticipated film adaptation.
Have an art lesson with the Newlyn School of Art
Art is at the core of Summer in February and central to the lives of many of the main characters. The landscape inspired the artists’ colony driving them to lead the way in outdoor painting. Book yourself onto a course with the Newlyn School of Art and you’ll find out why they were so captivated by the area. Many of the lessons offered by the School take place in the great outdoors and are taught by some of the best known artists working in Cornwall today.

Join a guided walk around Lamorna
Hugh and Jane Bedford know a thing or two about Lamorna’s rich and colourful past so for a glimpse into village life circa 1912 - 1914 you can’t go wrong by joining one of their afternoon guided walks. You’ll quite literally be following in the footsteps of the celebrated Alfred Munning. As well as seeing his and other painters art studios you will pass their former homes and experience the places where the moving real life story of Summer in February played out. Available on selected dates from July to September. To book call Penlee House Gallery and museum on 01736363625. £5 person.
Experience The Wink and The Cove
When you order a drink at The Wink in Lamorna you can almost imagine Alfred Munnings and best friend turned love rival, Gilbert Evans stood beside you at the bar. It was favoured drinking spot of the artists’ colony and with entertainment being as prolific as the art at the time, it played witness to many lively nights. Complete the experience by stepping into nearby The Cove which was once Jory’s Hotel and home to Gilbert Evans and later Florence and Alfred Munnings. Now a boutique hotel of apartments with a fine dining restaurant it was the base of choice for the cast and crew of Summer in February while filming.

Walk along the South West Coast Path
Secret lovers Gilbert and Florence enjoyed many walks along the South West Coast Path around Lamorna and it was one such walk that inspired the film's title. It was taken from one of Gilbert's diary entries, in which he wrote about a walk on the coast on a summer's day although the date it was recorded was in February. Fans of the story should also take a detour from the Coast Path to experience the Merry Maidens stone circle which was a favoured meeting place for the forbidden couple. Another must do is a visit to Porthcurno via the Coast Path which was used as the setting for a night-time beach party in the film.

Visit Trereife House
Pay a visit to Trereife House, a beautiful centuries old family-owned Estate steeped in history just outside Penzance, and you will discover the buildings that double as Lamorna’s in the film. Now is a great time to visit as the Stableyard Cafe has just opened to serve a menu of delicious treats from The Cornish Hen Deli and if you don’t want to leave, you don’t have to as four beautiful large rooms  are available for overnight stays.
