Next to the Abbey there is St Mary's Church which is rumoured to be the burial place of Dracula and the views from the churchyard are superb. The church itself is open to the public and at Christmas time it gets filled with Christmas trees from all the local Whitby businesses. It's definitely worth a visit.
After the church you can enjoy the views as you make your way down the famous 199 steps into the old town of Whitby which is very quaint with it's cobbled streets and interesting shops.
You can walk down to the end of both of Whitby's Piers, but the lighthouse on the west pier is open to the public so you can enjoy the fantastic views over Whitby.

There are so many local areas for great walks. One of the best walks is right on our doorstep and that is the Cleveland Way foot path which runs for 110 miles in total. We are situated between Whitby and Robin Hood's Bay so if you are staying with us you can go either way. The path to Whitby is a mile and the path to Robin Hood's Bay is 6 miles (don't tell anyone, but I cheat by walking to Robin Hood's Bay and catching the bus back to Whitby. Shhhh!).
