Hi everyone, and welcome back to our lovely park after so many months away. It's been a very trying time for everyone during the lock down and I hope you have all stayed safe and well. We are definitely glad to be back to the routine of work and having the park back open again. It's great to see everyone back on the park!
During the lock down the park has been constantly maintained by Steve and it has to be said he has done a brilliant job of keeping on top of everything by himself as most of the staff were put on furlough. Sue the manager has also done a fantastic job of keeping the office going and organising customers vouchers for the bookings they were unable to make because of the pandemic.
We have had to make a few adjustments on the park since re opening to allow for social distancing and to try and keep everyone safe - the cafe on site is now operating for take away meals only (or outside seating when the weather permits).
The shop is limited to one or two people in at any time, and the Galleon Bar has a one way system in place, with an ordering point and a collection point at the bar, and tables well spaced for social distancing. The cinema is also now open, again with the seating well spaced out for social distancing.
We also have several hand sanitising stations around the park and appropriate protection in reception to help keep everyone safe.
Since re opening on 4th July the park has been very busy and it's been lovely seeing all our customers - new ones and returning ones - making this a bustling little park again!
Whitby has also slowly returned to a new normality with all the shops, cafes, restaurants and bars reopening with their own social distancing measures in place, and they are all very friendly and welcoming if you pay them a visit. A lot of the bars and restaurants are only accepting booking now so keep that in mind if you fancy a meal or a pint in town.
As you probably already know most events for 2020 have been cancelled because of the pandemic - Whitby Regatta, Whitby Traction Engine Rally and Whitby Goth Weekend to name just a few, but some of the dates for next year have already been released if large events are allowed to take place...
Whitby Regatta: 21st - 23rd August
Whitby Goth Weekends: 23rd - 25th April and 29th - 31st October
Keep an eye on our Facebook page for any future dates for local events as they get released.
For anyone wanting a break but wanting to stay away from any crowds there are lots of walks in the local area to keep you entertained out in the fresh air. As we are on the Cleveland Way footpath then you can access the walk to Robin Hood's Bay direct from the park without having to drive anywhere, and if your legs fancy walking further you can keep going past Robin Hood's Bay to the next village.
Of course we also have Saltwick Bay beach accessible directly from the park if you didn't want to venture far from the park.
Bookings are already filling up fast for 2021 so if there are any dates that you would like to book for but haven't done so yet, then I wouldn't leave it too late (especially for the popular dates like Easter or bank holidays as these are always the first to get booked up).
Bookings are available on line via our website www.whitbypark.co.uk or by calling us on 01947 602664. Our reception is open 7 days a week.
See you all soon - stay safe!!
